VOLUNTEERING WITH OPHA

Committee Involvement

OPHA's Committees perform certain activities for the organization. Each Committee is typically led by OPHA staff or a member of our Board of Directors and further composed of additional Board and OPHA members. Individuals looking to serve on a Committee must be active members of OPHA and in good standing with the organization. OPHA is actively developing new guidance materials to grow and better support our Committees, so please check back for an interest form and additional information about volunteering on a Committee in early 2026.

Section Leadership

OPHA's Sections are interest-based groups for members with shared interests, expertise, or professional activities. Each Section best operates with three volunteer leaders – a Chair, Vice-Chair, and Secretary. Co-Chairs are also welcome in place of a Chair / Vice-Chair. All Sections operate under the umbrella of OPHA, report to one or both Section Representatives who serve on OPHA's Board of Directors, have regular (monthly, quarterly, etc) meetings or activities throughout the year, and convene for an annual meeting during OPHA's conference each September. All individuals interested in volunteering as a Section leader must be active members and in good standing with the organization. OPHA is actively developing new guidance materials to better support our Section leadership, so please check back for an interest form and additional information about volunteering as a Section leader in early 2026.

Serve on the Board of Directors

OPHA is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors composed of six Officers, two Members-at-Large, two Section Representatives, select Committee Chairs, and the Executive Director. Board members serve terms ranging from one to three years. OPHA's Board cycle runs from September 15 to September 14 the following year according to OPHA's Bylaws. Board members officially assume their roles on September 15 and ceremoniously at OPHA's annual conference, typically held in September. Each incoming Board is slated by the existing Board, with upcoming vacancies filled by election or appointment as indicated in OPHA's Bylaws, and approved by both a majority vote of the existing Board of Directors and the OPHA membership, typically held in July. Midterm vacancies are appointed by the President. Please expect more information about Board positions, duties, requirements, and how to apply to serve on the Board of Directors in spring 2026.

Event Support

OPHA hosts an annual Policy Day in Oklahoma City each spring, typically during National Public Health Week, and conference at a university or college each September. Event planning takes place on the Policy and Conference Committees, respectively, but we always need more "on the ground" support during these events!
