Event Date: Every Friday (February to May 2026)

    Event Time: 10:00-10:30 AM

    Location: Zoom

Description: OPHA's Policy Fridays provide a forum for public health-aligned students, practitioners, and researchers to learn about state and federal policy that impacts public health. Discussion includes bill updates, how policy is made, its different forms, various timelines & deadlines, terms & jargon, and, most critically, how policy is a critical  foundation for just or unjust public health systems, programs, and outcomes. All levels of policy knowledge and experience are welcome!

Speakers: McKenzie Cowlbeck, MPH, CPH (OPHA) & guest speakers as announced

Continuing Education: Up to 0.5 CPH, CHES & MCHES credits are available from each event. Attendees seeking continuing education or certificates of attendance must request their credits from OPHA through this linked survey within a week of the event and for each discussion attended. OPHA members and CHWs pay no cost to attend and receive CE credits provided by OPHA, but all other attendees will be invoiced $15 per credit hour upon credit request effective July 1, 2024.

Learning Areas: Policy and advocacy, communications and communication strategy

    Learning Objectives:

    • Analyze state and federal policy that impacts public health in Oklahoma
    • Sustain a public health policy coalition to achieve and maintain evidence-based or -informed policy, systems, and programs
    • Recognize key milestones and timelines in Oklahoma's legislative process, including voting deadlines and typical active or interim session periods

Continuing Education Fees: OPHA members pay no cost to attend and receive CE credits provided by OPHA. Continuing Education Attendance & Evaluation Policy: OPHA offers professional development opportunities and pursues approvals from credentialing bodies to offer continuing education. OPHA strives to meet the standards and competencies of credentialing agencies, and therefore attendance at an OPHA CE event does not guarantee credit. CE-seeking attendees must complete our credits and attendance certificate survey, linked here and on OPHA's homepage, for each event so that OPHA's Continuing Education Committee can ensure attendance, demonstrated learning, and provide requested CE event certificates to attendees on a quarterly basis. CE credits are ultimately awarded to participant by credentialing agency/body upon event and survey completion and the attendee reporting our provided activities.
